The Jefferson National Expansion Memorial. The Gateway Arch reflects St. Louis’ role in the Westward Expansion of the United States during the nineteenth century. The park is a memorial to Thomas Jefferson’s role in opening the West, to the pioneers who helped shape its history.
Fast forward to anno 2017. Here I am with my mother visiting the memorial. What happened the last two centuries? If you would look back, did United States and all its immigrants and American born citizens, did they expand Westward to the expectations of Thomas Jefferson?
If you would build a memorial today to honor the expansion of United States, what would you honor and who would you honor? Would you honor Elon Musk for commercializing the SpaceX flight to the moon? Of Steve Jobs for creating the world of apps and quick access to information via iPhone? I would build a great moon to symbolize the potential that the country and nation of United states still has. The vast majority of resources are not fully utilized yet. I believe the size of the country and its resources should inspire a nation to pursue a great dream in honor to its founding fathers and for the pursuit of innovation.
